May 9 is World Fair Trade Day - also called Big Bang! It's to be a global festival to promote a Fair Trade solution to poverty, climate change and economic crisis.
Big Bang! will start with a solo drummer at first light in New Zealand on 9th May, and will circle the earth with events, crossing all cultures and traditions and close at sunset in Samoa. World Fair Trade Day brings performers and supporters, audiences and producers, politicians and voters, brands and businesses together to open markets and minds to the reality of sustainable living.

The World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO) emerged last year from the International Fair Trade Association as a direct response to the failure of the WTO to correct the imbalance in trade and to present a Fair Trade solution to issues we face today.
The President of WFTO, Paul Myers, made the following statement -
"Poverty, Climate Change and Economic Crisis are from the same place - greed and ignorance. It's time we all did something about it - it's time to change. We don't have to wreck the future to meet the needs of today. If we truly believe that Fair Trade is both sustainable and effective, then it is the solution to the world's financial crisis."
